Hey Fellow Wolfen, Trainer Tony here. This will be the second blog entry for us and my first of many to come. Look for a new blog each month about mid-month. I want to Reiterate a little bit on our first blog that came from my partners’ wife, Lorraine, and her strength training venture. Lorraine is one of many I have seen in my 20 years as a Personal Trainer, that have never really been shown and/or applied themselves to strength training, yet knew they would benefit from it. I have a few theories on this, and fear underlines all of them. Fear of not knowing what you are doing, Fear of looking silly, Fear of injuring yourself, and Fear of getting bulky(Especially You Ladies). I see and hear people make excuses all the time about how all they need is their cardio. This is because of a few things; They lost some water weight, and they feel that it is all they need to achieve the results they want(Sooo Not True). Again, they believe they will get bulky(Also Not True). Here are the true benefits to strength training…. Better joint health, better heart health, better fat-loss, increased muscle development, increased confidence, and an overall more complete, and better physique. I want to touch base on the bulky belief…. Yes, you will retain water a bit and get inflamed(puffy), due to the stress you have put on your joints and muscles, yet this will subside for most of us within a short time, and some of us will take longer. You also have to weigh in the fact that you have not had enough time to burn the deep- storage fat within the muscles and also areas you are unable to reach through cardio-type training. My bottom line on this is simple….. It is imperative you include strength training in your life. I could go on forever and in more detail about this subject, and will interject on it monthly, but will leave you with a little history I have experienced with people I have trained. I have trained many people with conditions, and improved their health in ways they did not think possible. Although, I must say that Arthritis is the one condition that I have had more positive results with, more than any other condition by a large margin. When I look back on those results and why, it is simple….. Increased blood-flow in places of the joints you are not getting with any other exercise. So, if you are not strength training, you need to, and the time is now.
