Have you been told recently from your family, friends, or co-workers that you have been a Debbie Downer? Perhaps you are always grumpy or always feeling “down.” It might be time for a change, or maybe just a little physical activity to set your mood back in line! Staying fit and exercising, believe it or not, can very well turn your frown upside down. Okay it may not be able to always make you happy, but at least your mood will generally improve for the long haul!
Whether you realize it or not, exercising releases neurotransmitters and endorphins. They release neuro who? Not to worry, just know they are feel-good brain chemicals that take the ease off things! The next time you go for a light jog, curl some dumbbells, or throw in some ab-crunches, you could be improving your mood with every stride or repetition! Exercise and fitness also raises your body temperature, I know, amazing right! To be serious though, when your body temperature rises, it is said this may have calming effects.
Let’s get away from the science aspect of this whole debate, and move into a lighter side of the spectrum. There is nothing like a good old confidence boost. Hitting the gym is one of the best ways to improve your confidence. Setting goals and meeting them is great feeling. Not to mention, when you exercise, your appearance may change and this may be a good thing! A lot of people also take up fitness to take their mind off things, which distracts you from all the negative thoughts going on in your head. Your mood will thank you, and so will your peers!
As you can see, exercise and fitness is a great way to put yourself in a better mood, and get yourself healthy and fit at the same time. The social interaction element also helps as you will meet new friends and exchange friendly smiles and waves on a daily basis. Get out there, don’t be afraid!
